Simple Living

New Farm Light

This residence seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living, creating a harmonious connection with the garden. Large floor-to-ceiling glass doors open up the living space, allowing natural light to flood in and providing unobstructed views of the lush landscape outside. The open-plan design enhances the sense of flow, where the boundaries between the interior and exterior blur.

A spacious terrace extends from the living area, encouraging outdoor entertaining and relaxation. The use of natural materials, such as concrete and timber, complements the surrounding garden while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. Strategic landscaping not only enhances privacy but also draws the eye to seasonal changes in the garden, further enriching the home's connection to nature.

Concept

With this house having been previously lifted and then constructed underneath, the traditional proportion that relates the structure to the ground had unfortunately been lost. The primary intervention in the renovation was to elevate the ground plane at the front garden, effectively reinstating the classic Queensland proportions that are characteristic of the region. This adjustment enabled a more traditional and welcoming entry into the old Queenslander, enhancing its architectural integrity. The next significant alteration involved the addition of a stairwell leading down into the spacious kitchen, living, and dining room area, creating a more functional and harmonious flow throughout the home. Finally, the last major concept was to position an outdoor entertaining area off to the side rather than directly in front of the living area; this strategic placement facilitated a direct connection between the living space and the surrounding landscape, promoting a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
